Michael Burns
Federal Retirement Consultant
Michael Burns specializes in helping U.S. federal employees navigate retirement decisions with clarity and confidence.
Over time, he noticed a consistent pattern: pension decisions made without understanding tax impact, TSP strategies built without income planning, and survivor elections chosen without seeing the long-term tradeoffs. Each decision made sense on its own, but rarely as part of a larger structure.
That insight shaped the Retirement Financial House framework. Many federal employees are taught to focus on the “three-legged stool” of FERS, Social Security, and the TSP. Those components matter—but without a cohesive strategy, they remain separate parts. Within the House framework, they form a disciplined structure built to support decades of income, protection, and stability.
The approach is education-first and strategy-driven. Federal benefits are complex, and small decisions can have permanent consequences. The priority is ensuring the foundation is sound before any long-term commitments are made.
At its core, retirement planning isn’t about accounts or projections, it’s about protecting the life and people those benefits were meant to support.
Retirement decisions are permanent. They deserve clarity.
